Wintergreen oil (botanical name: Gaultheria procumbens) is obtained by steam distillation from the herb of the creeping mock berry. This naturally pure essential oil is characterized by a medicinal-sweet fragrance. It contains approx. 98 % salicylic acid methyl ester. Due to its pain-relieving and inflammation-suppressing effect, this oil is very popular for muscle pain after sports or rheumatic complaints, e.g. in massage oils, rubs, or baths.
